In the Principal’s words: “This year, the Brad Crawford Agency brought the ‘Kindness Revolution’ program to our school. It teaches positive behavior, with an emphasis on kindness, in order to reduce the persistent issue of bullying. The program has been embraced by out students, faculty, staff, parents and community. Through his involvement, he will be helping children continue the practice of kindness into adulthood and impact future generations.”

In the Principal’s words: “The Ball Ground Police Department has been an extremely active and dedicated partner with our school. The officers are always present at school functions… and most every morning: rain, shine or freezing cold, Chief Bryon Reeves is assisting at car-rider duty. They are committed to assisting and supporting our students, both in the classroom and throughout the community.”

Partner of the Year: Keller Williams Realty Partners - The Jenny and Penny Team
In the Principal’s words: “Penny has gone above and beyond… providing gift bags for faculty and staff, running an arts and crafts booth at the Cookies and Cocoa with Santa PTA event, providing the staff with snacks for faculty meetings and donations for PTA events. She “adopted” CCSD children in need to give them a special Christmas, and she makes a donation of $200 to the school when a home is sold to a staff or family member through her team.”

Without a doubt, the most outstanding contribution they make is providing our Student Leadership Team the opportunity to take part in the year-long Chick-fil-A Leaders Academy. In the Principal’s words: “As a small school, our resources are limited. There is not a budget line for the child without a snack or school supplies or the parent who needs Christmas assistance. William Weaver, and Help a Child Ministry, step up in these situations. He goes above and beyond simply writing a check or making a donation… and will go into the community to rally support. We cannot thank him and his ministry enough.”

In the Principal’s words: “This past year, we organized out first annual 5K Color Run to raise money to help support the students and school. We could not have done this without the support of Northside. When we were in need, they did not hesitate to see what we needed to make this fundraiser successful. Not only did they provide water bottles and towels for all runners, they also partnered with us with their Daily Endorphin Challenge.”

In the Principal’s words: “Owner Terri Miramonti has been involved with Indian Knoll over the last four years. One Friday a month from August to October and March to May, Kona comes to the school for Kona Ice Day fundraisers. While Kona is on campus, they offer free Kona Ice to all teachers, staff and cafeteria workers. She also brought a smile to their faces by making over our family living suite/teacher’s lunchroom.”

Northside supports our school-based efforts to keep students healthy so they can learn and thrive.”

On their own they purchase items, pack them into bags and deliver the bags to be passed out to 75 students each Friday. These bags ensure no child will go hungry over the weekend.”

In the Principal’s words: “Patrick Locke did not need to do what he did for Sequoyah, but what he did, he wanted to do. His company sells office furniture, and when Sequoyah’s main office was redesigned and new furniture was needed, not only did he offer a variety of options – he donated the furniture. Every day, parents, students and community members come to the school and talk about how nice the front office looks, and Mr. Locke played a huge part.”

In the Principal’s words: “Sojourn Church plays a very large role in the volunteer efforts of our school and are dedicated partners in education. Every Tuesday, you’ll find them at the Woodstock Public Library supporting and assisting with our homework club and providing transportation to students who otherwise would not be able to attend. They also have provided a back-to-school luncheon for teachers and staff… a post-planning party… and are a continual supporter always willing to help when called upon.”

He never asks for anything in return. He truly wants to do what is best for teachers.”

The amazing part is that she’s been volunteering in our media center for the past seven years. Her efforts allow our media specialist time to plan well-thought-out lessons that are engaging and meaningful. She truly loves our school, and we could not ask for a more dedicated, caring and compassionate volunteer.”

In the Principal’s words: “There is no end to Jennifer’s generosity. She spent numerous hours over a semester planning, creating, painting, staging and detailing a new hands-on interactive science lab for our students. She leads Girl Scout Troop 14655, which designed, built and maintains a Little Free Library on the campus. She planned our Veterans Day breakfast and program. She says ‘yes’ to virtually anything we ask of her.”

In the Principal’s words: “Ginny gives so much of her time to Cherokee! She volunteers weekly in one of the busiest offices and is always pleasant, no matter how crazy the day. She became involved while her daughter was a student and has remained involved even after she graduated. She not only spends hours in the attendance office, she also helps with cheer as president of the varsity cheer booster club.”

In the Principal’s words: “With the transition of each new member at the end of last school year, the current Board has brought in some wonderful ideas to help support our students, staff and community. This year alone, the PTSA facilitated a 5K Color Run raising $12,000, implemented a basic needs and toy drive for the first annual Spirit of the Season… volunteered, provided staff thank-you lunches and coordinated school dances. They work together, collectively, to ensure all of our needs are met.”

He was our first booster club president and is now in his 14th year in the position. In the Principal’s words: “Michael is in the film industry and has utilized his talents, time and equipment to help Etowah in several endeavors. One way he does this is that he comes out and films the coaches, kids and fans outside of just the football game and provides them with a film at the end of the season. True charity is giving and not expecting anything in return. I believe that Michael is an excellent example of true charity.”

She is one of the most selfless individuals I have ever met. She is a true example of ‘loving your neighbor,’ and we consider ourselves fortunate she has chosen to share her love with us.”

Volunteer of the Year: Theresa Spears
In the Principal’s words: “Theresa has a strong work ethic and does not wait to be told something needs to be done. This is evident in the countless hours she spends in the media center throughout the year. The fall and spring book fairs become a full-time job for her during those six days. As proof of her dedication, she has already said she will continue to be a part of our school next year even though it’s a ‘gap year’ for her without a child here.”

Hasty Elementary School Fine Arts Academy
Volunteer of the Year: Francisco Quintana
In the Principal’s words: “Mr. Quintana doesn’t have children in the school, but his wife came to work as a lunchroom manager in August. When she shared with him the needs the children and staff had, he came into the school and offered to be a volunteer. He comes into school from 9:30 to 2 each day. When we have a break, he comes in saying ‘I missed being here.’ He is heaven-sent!”

In the Principal’s words: “Sheila is a teacher’s dream come true as she serves the role of room mom. Because she is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that every classroom is properly cared for, all students benefit. She also spearheads the Hospitality Committee and has done so for five years. Most importantly, Sheila’s servant heart serves as an example to us all.”

In the Principal’s words: “Our school wouldn’t be the same without the time, effort, care and concern Khrista showers on us. She was in charge of coordinating our Red Ribbon Week activities, and her husband, a firefighter, dressed up as Sparky the Fire Dog and greeted students at the beginning of the day to kick off the week. She serves as a room parent, and has a smile for everyone.”

She works closely with out Partners in Education, and you will see her volunteering every day either in the media center, front office or in the classroom.”

I wish we could clone him!”

She is a valuable volunteer in both our media center and Johnston Elementary’s, as she steps in and assists in the day-to-day operations. She readily completes any task given to her and interacts positively with both staff and students.”

When I told her that she was being nominated for this honor, she asked me not to. I had to convince her to let me do this because she so deserves the recognition.”

In the Principal’s words: “Debra loves joining classes and leading standards-based lessons on the many places she has been and many things she has seen as a retired flight coordinator for the lead of the Coca-Cola Company. Her devotion does not stop there, as she spends two days a week mentoring students needing extra reading instruction as well as supporting teachers in the classroom. She is the type of volunteer that every school desires!”

His heart is 10 times the size of everyone else’s, and he’s been recognized by the CBS Surprise Squad for being so helpful to his neighbors. Anytime help is needed, all I have to do is call Roy!”

We cannot think of someone more giving of her time, who asks for nothing in return.”

In the Principal’s words: “Alyssa serves in each of her four girls’ classrooms and is very active in our PTA. And she has become known around Sixes as the best cupcake baker of all time. And she doesn’t just make them for her children’s classes… she makes them for the entire staff. Despite her busy life as a mom of four, she finds time to be at Sixes for PTA events, no matter if it’s set-up, clean-up, selling cotton candy or manning the go-fish booth.”

In the Principal’s words: “Mr. Harrison, a retired CCSD music educator, has changed the course and trajectory of our school music program through both his interaction with students and his advice to directors. He never misses a day and demonstrates commitment to our students. When we told him about a student in need who needed a trumpet, he organized a collection, and ended up donating seven trumpets to provide for that student and others. We can think of no better person to honor.”

On a typical day volunteering, he may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, patrol the school entrances and hallways, and assist with traffic. There is no doubt he can always be counted on when volunteers are needed.”

Volunteer of the Year: Woodstock High School Band Dads
In the Principal’s words: “These parents devote many hours to perform work that is often very physical – getting everything it takes to operate a marching band from point A to point B and then back to point A when we’re done -- in environmental conditions that aren’t always pleasing: sweltering heat and sometimes heavy rain. They do this with a great attitude. They do it extremely well. They are an integral part of the program that allows us to represent our school to the highest level.”

She is able to speak with other parents as a parent, but also as a parent working in the front office.”
