The Cherokee County School District is expanding to all schools its system that allows parents to track their child’s school bus on a smart phone or computer! By using their child’s student ID number, parents can access the route for their child’s home address. Access to tracking information is limited to the 15-minute window before their child’s scheduled pick-up and drop-off times.
The Transportation Department began testing the Versatrans My Stop system last school year, and after a successful pilot, the system will be available to all CCSD parents beginning July 30 – just in time for the first day of school on Aug. 1.
“The parents who participated in our pilot shared what a positive difference it has made in their lives, so we’re excited to be able to offer it to all families for this school year,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower. “Having real-time information as to whether a bus is on schedule allows parents to keep their children indoors on cold or rainy days as long as possible and puts their mind at ease when they know where the bus is when it’s running late.”
Parents can track their child’s school bus through this link or by downloading the Versatrans My Stop mobile app (note: while the log-in screen looks identical to the bus stop look-up program, do NOT enter the bus/route user id and password for this system-- you must use your child's student ID). The GPS-based system shows parents the location of their child’s bus on a map of its route for 15 minutes prior to its scheduled arrival at the bus stop both in the morning and in the afternoon. The system tracks how many minutes away the bus is from the stop, which is even more accurate than the map image.
Schools have access to an “arrival board” online, similar to airports’ screens, to provide staff with updated information about all buses. The My Stop system eliminates the need for school staff to notify parents if a bus is delayed.
