As is part of the start of every new school year for the Cherokee County School District, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower today held his first meeting with the Cherokee County Council PTA’s executive board.
The Cherokee County Council PTA (CCC PTA) oversees all of the school PTA units in CCSD. It is a separate organization from CCSD and is led by its own governance team. This year’s officers are Co-Presidents Catherine Shook and Lori Burton, Co-Vice Presidents Jessica Akers and Marieline Reedy, Secretary Scott Steinbrenner and Treasurer Jessica Buckner.
During the meeting, Dr. Hightower and several members of his senior staff shared updates on school operations and new initiatives, answered questions and heard feedback from the PTA leaders. The group also talked about plans for this year’s Parent University, a program presented each year by CCSD in collaboration with CCC PTA to offer parents informational sessions on topics related to student success and wellness.
“Our children, schools and community as a whole are more successful thanks to the support of the PTA,” Dr. Hightower said. “The PTA is our most valued partner, and we hope every parent will join and serve, whether as a volunteer, a fundraiser donor or event sponsor, an advocate or in more than one of these vital roles. Volunteering with the PTA is an opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of a child.”
