A Clark Creek Elementary School STEM Academy teacher is continuing to stack up impressive honors and awards!
Karen Garland, the school’s Teacher of the Year and a CCSD 2020 Teacher of the Year finalist, has been named both a Georgia Youth Science and Technology Centers’ 2020 Georgia STEM Scholar and a member of the inaugural cohort of the Governor’s School Leadership Academy’s Teacher Leader Support Program.
The Georgia STEM Scholar Awards recognize outstanding efforts to engage and improve student learning in STEM disciplines, and honorees receive a $500 grant to purchase STEM education materials for their classroom and free admission to the Center’s Summer STEM Institute professional development conference.
Ms. Garland will be recognized with her fellow Scholars at the Centers’ awards luncheon later this month and by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at the School Board’s March meeting.
The Georgia Teacher Leader Support Program is a program for select educators to further develop their teacher-leader skills through professional development and onsite coaching with individualized support and feedback.
These honors follow recent announcements that Ms. Garland is the Georgia Science Teachers Association 2020 Teacher of the Year for Elementary Schools and the Council of Outdoor Learning Chair for the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia.
