Dean Rusk Middle School has earned national digital citizenship recognition!

The school has received Common Sense School certification from the national nonprofit organization Common Sense.  Schools earn this recognition by demonstrating a strong commitment to teaching students to use technology responsibly and to think critically.

“We’re honored to be recognized as a Common Sense School,” Principal Dawn Weinbaum said.  “By preparing our students to use technology safely and responsibly, we are providing them an opportunity to build lifelong habits to help them succeed in a tech-driven world.”

She thanked media specialist Paula Dangar for her work that earned this certification.  Ms. Dangar uses Common Sense Education’s resources as part of her lessons to teach students responsible technology use including internet safety, avoiding cyberbullying, managing online relationships, protecting personal privacy and their online reputation, and understanding plagiarism and media literary and balance.

“The faculty and staff of Dean Rusk Middle School deserve high praise for giving students the foundational skills they need to compete and succeed in the 21st-century workplace and participate ethically in society at large,” said Kelly Mendoza, vice president of education programs at Common Sense Education.  “We applaud them for embracing digital citizenship as an important part of their students’ education.”
