The Cherokee County School District congratulates the winners of its annual Elementary School Academic Bowl!
Organized by CCSD’s Office of Curriculum & Instruction, the event held earlier this month at Dean Rusk Middle School offered teams the opportunity to demonstrate their academic knowledge through competition. Schools were divided into leagues, with league winners then advancing to semi-finals, with a final round to determine the overall winners.
The Macedonia Elementary School team was named the League 3 winner and the overall CCSD champions. Team members are: Wyatt Baker, Lila Bush, Keegan Cribb, Brauner Denkinger, Luke Harvey, Alex Hopkins, Logan Knott, Emmaline McKinney, Lucas Pattillo, Lyla Smith; and coaches, paraprofessional Kathy Buelow and teacher Kristina Cribb.
Little River Elementary School’s team won League 1 and earned second place overall. Team members are: Tyler Dietze, Benjamin Hamilton, Ryan Harney, Joshua Harrison, Saanvi Lamba, Ellie Mayfield, Jack Schwartz, Conrad Tchamabe, Clayton Thrasher, Alex Ward and coach, teacher Megan Mayfield.
Hickory Flat Elementary School won League 2. Team members are: Joseph DeFiore, Matthew Gula, Evie Hardin, Sam Hickey, Inakshi Nayak, Taylor Throne, Chloe Ward and coach, teacher Linda Warner, and assistant coach, teacher Michelle Meeks.
Free Home Elementary School won League 4. Team members are: Joseph Browning, Nate Chimera, Luke Frey, Elizabeth Gormly, Kelsi Grizzle, Turner Peppers, Avery Shepp, Connor Thompson, Charli Wallace, Brock Wilke; and coaches, media specialist Dawn Barrett, instructional lead strategist Krissy Cloud and teacher Claire Hexom.
“Congratulations to all of our winners – we’re proud of you for your dedication to learning and for showing off the knowledge you’ve mastered,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “Thank you to their coaches and to our curriculum staff for organizing this opportunity. It’s important for every student to have the opportunity to shine inside and outside the classroom and become more engaged in their school.”
