Woodstock MS Essay Contest 1 5 22

A Woodstock Middle School student is a regional essay contest winner!

Seventh-grader Sawyer Swift was named the Cherokee County overall winner by the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District for his entry into its 20th annual water essay contest.

For the contest this year, middle school students wrote a 300-500 word essay based on either researching an essential water career, or in response to the question: “Why is a clean, abundant water supply essential for our metro Atlanta region, and for our state?”  Sawyer’s winning essay is posted online here.

“Congratulations to Sawyer on his award-winning essay about the career path of a riverkeeper.  I read his essay and, like the judges, was very impressed with his research and writing,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “We’re so proud of Sawyer and his interest in STEM learning, which we know has been fostered by our teachers including his outstanding STEM teacher Stephanie Vidrine.”

Sawyer, and the countywide winners from all other metro Atlanta counties, will be honored by the organization at an awards ceremony.  The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will recognize Sawyer at the School Board’s meeting this month.
