ACE Academy Award of Excellence winner 5 5 21

A Cherokee County School District student has won the Georgia Award of Excellence.

ACE Academy Class of 2021 graduate Michael Gerow earned the award presented by the Georgia Department of Education to recognize graduating seniors who overcome special needs to achieve academic and/or extracurricular accomplishments.

Since enrolling at ACE Academy last August, Michael has earned eight academic credits and officially graduated early this week.  Michael has overcome challenges in his life, including a difficult childhood that resulted in the need for foster care, in order to excel in school.

He was selected as the ACE Academy Student of the Month for January 2021 and is described by his teachers as one of the most positive, upbeat and dedicated students they have taught.

A participant in the Fort Phoenix Cadet Corps after-school leadership program operated by the Phoenix Training Center in Canton, Michael plans to enroll in technical college and seek employment in the automotive industry.

The Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools will honor him with a virtual recognition at the May School Board meeting.
