Cherokee County School District students earned honors at the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair, including a top prize!
CCSD’s top young scientists and engineers earlier this year competed at the Northwest Georgia Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Eight middle and high schools students placed at regionals to earn the opportunity to advance to the state fair held this month at the University of Georgia.
E.T. Booth Middle School seventh-grader Pradhyumna Vasishta earned first place in the junior division at the state fair and won a Broadcom Masters nomination. The Broadcom competition, sponsored by the Society for Science & the Public, is the nation’s premier science fair competition for middle school students.
Three more E.T. Booth MS seventh-graders also placed at the state fair: Rohan Pandya, third place; Hailii Hammond, fourth place; and Sophie Naliwajka, fourth place. E.T. Booth MS STEM and science research teacher Dr. Larry Gruszecki mentored the students on their projects.
“We’re incredibly proud of these outstanding students for earning statewide honors in recognition of their dedication to STEM learning,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “They represented their school and our school district with excellence. Congratulations to Dr. Gruszecki on leading his students to these honors and for the overall success of the science research program he leads. STEM knowledge provides our students with strong critical thinking skills and more opportunities for college and career success, which is why the School Board has continued to invest in these programs.”
The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will recognize the students and Dr. Gruszecki at a School Board meeting later this spring.
