CCSD Georgia Teacher of the Year Visit 1 26 23

Georgia’s Teacher of the Year visited the Cherokee County School District this week for a special presentation!

Michael Kobito, an Advanced Placement (AP) music theory teacher and high school band director at Woodland High School in Bartow County, is the 2023 Teacher of the Year for the state.  He spoke after school on Wednesday to the faculty of Sixes Elementary School, and his presentation was filmed to be shared with all CCSD teachers and staff.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower invited Mr. Kobito to speak to principals in December.  Dr. Hightower was impressed by his engaging and interactive speech about the positive impact teachers can have on not only learning, but also students’ confidence.

“We’re grateful that Michael came back to visit us so we could capture his outstanding presentation to share with all of our teachers,” Dr. Hightower said.  “What makes the video plan even more special is that his visit was filmed by our own high school students.”

Two students in the Woodstock High School Career Pathway audio video technology and film program led by teacher Jeff Wagner recorded the presentation, which will be shared next month with CCSD teachers and staff.  Seniors Ava Georgescu, who attended Sixes ES for elementary school, and Abbey Skouras both plan to pursue careers in video and film production.

Sixes ES Principal Dr. Ashley Kennerly arranged the presentation for her faculty, which was extra special for them as Mr. Kobito’s wife, Emily, is a third-grade teacher there.
