A Cherokee County School District staff member today earned recognition for her community service!

CCSD's Cory Steinberg, who works in the Office of Curriculum and Instruction, was surprised this morning in front of her peers by Modern Woodmen representative Garth Gherardini with the company's Hometown Hero Award. The award, which includes a donation in the honoree's name, recognizes people who are making a positive impact and giving countless hours of service to their community.

“The Hometown Hero program allows us to thank those who give back to the community while encouraging others to volunteer,” Mr. Gherardini said.

Ms. Steinberg was nominated in recognition of her volunteer efforts with various community organizations, and especially for her role in coordinating the Give a Kid a Chance program.

"Cory has coordinated the Give a Kid a Chance back-to-school event for the past few years, which means she has significantly impacted hundreds (and probably thousands) of Cherokee County families who have needed vital assistance in getting their children ready for school," Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. "While she would tell you it is a team effort, under her leadership GAKAC has been a shining star for our County and greatly appreciated by the School District."
