Our Principals are dedicated leaders, and we’ll be introducing you over the coming days to Principals who are new to the role or who are serving at new schools this year. Please help us celebrate Jennifer McIntosh, who this school year will begin leading Knox Elementary School STEM Academy!
As a teacher, Jennifer McIntosh helped build the internationally recognized, award-winning Clark Creek Elementary School STEM Academy, and now is bringing that expertise to her new role as Principal of Knox Elementary School STEM Academy.
She envisions the same successes for Knox, which is one of CCSD’s newest STEM Academies having adopted the special additional focus last school year.
“My main goal is to build strong relationships with our students, staff, parents and business partners so that together, we can continue to effectively meet the emotional, social and academic needs of our students,” said Principal McIntosh, who most recently served as assistant principal at Hasty Elementary School Fine Arts Academy. “Additionally, along with the vision of CCSD, we would like to provide additional STEM opportunities for our students to foster ingenuity, creativity and critical thinking.”
A 20-year educator, Principal McIntosh also has previously taught at Woodstock Elementary School and in Fulton County, and twice won a Teacher of the Year title – once for Clark Creek, and once for Esther Jackson Elementary School in Fulton. She's a past Governor's Innovation in Teaching winner and a Microsoft Innovative Educator, and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Kennesaw State University, master’s in educational leadership from the University of Georgia, and specialist in curriculum and instruction degree from Piedmont College.
“I am extremely honored to join the dynamic and dedicated Knox STEM Academy school community,” said Principal McIntosh, who with her husband, Chris, has 8-year-old twin boys who attend Woodstock ES. “It is an absolute blessing to be given the opportunity to spend my days alongside the incredible staff at Knox cultivating engaging learning opportunities for our students, while watching them grow and learn. I look forward to working with our students and continuing the outstanding work that is already taking place at Knox.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower praised Principal McIntosh for her knowledge of STEM best practices and how to best support students from all backgrounds.
“There could not be a better fit for Knox as it expands upon its capacity as a STEM Academy,” Dr. Hightower said. “She has the vision, know-how and drive to help her team build the school into a place where STEM interest is sparked for future scientists, engineers, doctors, technologists and more.”
How can parents be more involved? “The Knox community has always had a wonderful reputation for active participation in school functions and have shown tremendous support over the years,” Principal McIntosh said. “This year, we will be offering some additional opportunities for parents through data nights and student-led conferences. We are especially excited for these opportunities that will give parents a clear picture of how their child is performing, the expected level of mastery, and an action plan for reaching academic goals!
