Creekland Middle School earned the top trophy at this year’s Cherokee County School District Middle School Academic Bowl!

Dean Rusk Middle School’s team placed as runner-up at the event this week, which is organized by CCSD’s Office of Curriculum & Instruction and sponsored by the Cherokee County Educational Foundation.

The event, which qualifies winners for regional competition, provides all of CCSD’s middle school academic bowl teams an opportunity for head-to-head competition to answer questions from all areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, sports and popular culture.  The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration while reinforcing classroom lessons and encouraging players to go beyond their assignments to master other knowledge areas as well.

Creekland MS Academic Bowl Team members are Captain Abigail Moore, William Brooks, Aaron Dickson, Ford Smith and Will Swanson.  They are coached by Eric Norris and assistant coach Rob Moore.  They will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at an upcoming School Board meeting following regional academic bowl competition.

Dean Rusk MS Academic Bowl Team members are: Captain Riley O’Neill, Matthew Chemmala, Owen Dickerson, Anjali Gavalas, Luke Griffies, Jack Johnson, Matthew Klucsarits, Ben Koster and Dahlen Roth.  They are coached by teacher Courtney Jasman.

“We’re so proud of these incredibly bright students and their outstanding teacher coaches, and it’s really impressive to watch them show off the knowledge they’ve mastered,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “Our School Board and I are dedicated to offering extra-curricular opportunities -- academic, artistic, athletic, career skills and other interests -- for students to learn more, engage in their schools, serve their community and demonstrate their abilities.  Congratulations and best wishes at regionals!”
