A high-performing school district begins with a high-performing School Board, and our governance team is raising expectations this year for student responsibility, academic ownership and behavior expectations. New and updated School Board policies strengthen our commitment to families that students learn grade-level material through standards-aligned instruction at the level of the standard and assessment at the level of the standard.

Report Cards: Elementary and middle school students will receive printed report cards every quarter, while high school students will receive printed report cards and unofficial transcripts each semester. Beginning this school year, third-grade report cards will transition to the same numerical and letter grading system already used in grades 4-12.

Promotion: For students in grades 3-12, a passing grade remains 70, and assignments must be completed within the instructional unit in which they are assigned. Students who begin to show academic concerns related to work completion, performance, attendance, and/or behavior could be at risk for academic interventions, summer school, or even retention to repeat a grade level or course.

• For the elementary school level, we are introducing promotion criteria and standard parent communication for students at risk of retention.
• For the middle and high school level, course recovery will be offered for a score of 55-69 and fewer than 10 unexcused absences.
• For the middle and high school level, course re-enrollment and/or summer school will be required for a score below 55 or a score below 69 with more than 10 unexcused days absences. Course re-enrollment means the student retakes the class(es) during the next school year’s regular schedule instead of the next class in the subject and/or an elective.

Parent-Teacher Conference Days: To strengthen communication between schools and families, we’re beginning scheduled parent-teacher conference days. Elementary schools will hold conference days Oct. 13-16, with early dismissal each day to allow teachers time to meet with families. Districtwide parent-teacher conference days for all grade levels will be held Jan. 28-29, also with early dismissal. These conferences will provide families with dedicated time to discuss academic progress, strengths, and any needed interventions to support student success. Information about dismissal times will be shared with parents in advance; After School Program hours during these new early release days also will be shared with elementary school parents in advance.
