CCSD Schools Score High for School Climate four stars image

Cherokee County School District schools continue to score high among their community members for fostering a positive school climate and culture!

The District earned a four-star average on the five-star scale in the Georgia Department of Education’s annual ratings, which measure how a community views the quality of its school’s culture and character; the highest possible rating is five stars.  The rating is based on a survey of students, parents and teachers; student discipline issue rates; and daily attendance.

CCSD Performance Improves and Continues to Exceed State Accountability Scores Elem writing

The Cherokee County School District’s performance has improved, and, for the seventh consecutive year, has exceeded the State’s average College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) accountability system score.

The scores, released today by the Georgia Department of Education, annually calculate student academic achievement and progress.  The School District’s 2018-19 CCRPI average is 83, an increase from 79 the previous year, and exceeding the State average of 76.  Scores at all three levels of CCSD schools also improved from the previous year and surpassed State performance: 86 elementary (77 Georgia); 80 middle (72); 82 high (77).

We Appreciate Our CCSD School Bus Drivers! bus driver breakfast

October 21-25 is National School Bus Safety Week, and this is also the time we honor our school bus drivers and thank them for the great job they do keeping children safe on the ride to and from school.  Thanks to sponsors Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Chick-fil-A restaurants in Cherokee County, CCSD drivers were treated to breakfast on Tuesday and given Chick-fil-A gift cards and a bag of treats.  CCSD schools also held special events or provided tokens of thanks for their drivers.

Can you remember a teacher or another school staff member from your childhood who made a positive difference in your life?  Did you ever thank them?

“We know our School District is a family of caring teachers, counselors, bus drivers, cafeteria staff and many more, all focused on doing their best to serve our students …  and a new districtwide initiative will now give students the opportunity to thank them!” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “We’re excited to begin #thanksCCSD and honor those among us who go above and beyond.”

School Start Times for the  2019-2020 School Year

Cherokee County Board of Education ran the numbers, and will be able to add five more minutes of learning to the school day for elementary school students during the 2019-2020  school year without disrupting bus routes. Beginning in August, the school day will start at 7:35 a.m. for all elementary school students. The schedules for our other schools will remain unchanged. As we continue to raise expectations for learning, while still allowing time for recess, friendship and fun, every minute helps.
