MARC
Now is the time for rising 10th and 11th grade students to apply to the Model Atlanta Regional Commission (MARC) youth leadership program. The application deadline is Friday, June 4. MARC, sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), is the region’s premier youth leadership program, engaging students in experiential learning about the factors which shape metro Atlanta’s future, including transportation and air quality, natural resources sustainability, community development, arts and culture, and more.
Each year, ARC accepts up to 55 students into the program. We are requesting your help in identifying promising young leaders for the class of 2021-22. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in civic and community issues, service and leadership qualities, and an ability to work collaboratively. Some details about MARC:
- Any student currently in the 9th or 10th grade in the 10-county Atlanta region (Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, and Rockdale counties) may apply.
- The class meets once a month on Saturdays for six months, beginning in August 2021.
- Initial sessions will be held online and transition to in-person as COVID-19 safety guidelines allow.
- There is no cost to participants.
- Applications are due June 4.
Since 1998, more than 1,000 young residents of metro Atlanta have benefited from MARC and are taking their place along with other regional leaders who care about their community. Graduates and their parents have reported that participation has been instrumental in receiving scholarships and college admissions.

UNG Summer Language Academy
the 7th Annual Federal Service Language Academy this summer at the University of North Georgia.
Your students have a choice of learning Arabic, Chinese, Russian, German, Korean, French, Japanese or Portuguese. They will also learn about federal service careers where knowing a critical foreign language and culture is important, such as the FBI, Department of State, CIA, the military, and more. For three weeks, your rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors will live in a modern residence hall on our scenic campus in Dahlonega, Georgia, site of the first major gold rush in the U.S. They will be taught by highly trained instructors using communicative language teaching methods.
Your rising high school juniors also have an opportunity to study abroad in France or Germany if they have at least two years of high school French or German.
