7 Mindsets Initiative

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to our Dean Rusk Middle School community. As we begin our second semester together, I want to share a new initiative for our students here at DRMS. As you know, our school day includes a built-in advisement timeframe each day called “Chieftain Chat.” During this time on Wednesdays, we will be implementing the DRMS initiative of 7 Mindsets.

We hope you, as parents, will begin to hear about these Mindsets from your students and will see this as an opportunity to encourage and support the 7 Mindsets initiative. Although academics are extremely important, the 7 Mindsets focuses on students’ social-emotional learning and will tap into your students’ unlimited life potential. Here at DRMS, we believe that each student has the potential for greatness in their life. As a staff, we want our focus on the 7 Mindsets to have a positive impact on our school as a whole and each student individually.

Attached you will find an introductory document describing the initiative and the 7 Mindsets. This information may provide a platform for family discussions concerning all aspects of school life. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s grade-level counselor. As always, we appreciate your partnership and support of Dean Rusk Middle School.

Thank you,

Ms. Weinbaum, Principal

CCSD takes vaping as seriously as any other tobacco product or marijuana, and the repercussions to a student’s health and school record are not worth risking. A 2018 national study released reported 1 in 5 high school students have tried vaping.

School Social Workers Assist Families in Need CCSD Social Workers

This is National Social Work Month, and CCSD has four full-time social workers who assist the families of our 42,000 students in overcoming challenges that might affect their education.  Our social workers strive daily to connect families with community resources and provide interventions to address situations like homelessness, hunger, truancy, drug abuse, neglect and other challenges.   Last year, CCSD’s three social workers made 793 home visits; handled more than 800 cases; made 1,500 parent contacts and provided assistance to 146 homeless students.   This year, with the addition of a fourth member to the social worker team, they are on a pace to work 1,000 referrals and  serve more than 230 homeless students.
