The Federal Programs Department is in the Department of Schools and Academics.  We provide technical assistance, program monitoring, and resources, to our schools and central office departments to ensure that all children have an opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and to achieve proficiency on the state's high academic achievement standards.

Title I, Part A - Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged

Title I, Part A is a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  This Act provides federal funds to local public schools with high numbers or percentages of poor children to help ensure that all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards.  These funds support state and local reform efforts tied to challenging State academic standards in order to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students.  Title I, Part A programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include family engagement using evidence-based strategies.

Title I, Part A - Parent and Family Engagement 

Title I, Part A Parent and Family Engagement Parent and Family Engagement is an ongoing process that increases active participation, communication, and collaboration between parents, schools, and communities with the goal of educating the whole child to ensure student achievement and success.

Title I, Part C - Education of Migratory Children

Title I, Part C (MEP) is designed to support comprehensive educational programs for migrant children to help reduce the educational disruption and other problems that result from repeated moves.

Title I, Part D - Neglected and Delinquent Children

Title I, Part D is designed to support comprehensive educational programs in local and State institutions for neglected or delinquent children and youth in order to provide the opportunity to meet State academic content standards and to help ensure successful transition from institutionalization to further schooling or employment.

Title II, Part A - Supporting Effective Instruction

Title II, Part A is designed to support effective instruction by improving the effectiveness of teachers, principals and other school leaders to improve academic achievement.

Title III, Part A - Language Instruction for English Learners and Immigrant Students

Title III, Part A is a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This formula grant program is designed to improve the education of English Leaners (ELs). Title III funds may be used to provide supplemental services that improve the English language proficiency and academic achievement of identified ELs and immigrant students. All services provided using Title III funds must supplement, and not supplant, the services that must be provided under the Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Equal Educational Opportunities Act of 1974 (EEOA), and other requirements, including those under state or local laws. Title III funds are used to provide evidence-based, supplemental resources and programs to support identified ELs and immigrant students, develop staff, and engage EL and immigrant families. As Title III, Part A is supplemental to the Cherokee County School District ESOL program.

Title IV, Part A - Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE)

Title IV, Part A is a grant with a wide range of allowable uses.  This grant is used to provide all students with access to a well-rounded education, improve school conditions for student learning, and to improve the use of technology in order to improve the academic achievement and digital literacy of all students.

Title VI, Part B/IDEA

Title VI, Part B/IDEA funds support the identification of eligible students aged 3-21 and support the needs of students with disabilities in accessing their curriculum and making progress on their IEP goals.

ESSER-Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief

ESSER funds are designed to support areas with the greatest need, where the academic and non-academic components for school districts had the greatest impact due to COVID-19.  The intent of the grant is to support efforts to safely reopen schools, address significant gaps in learning, and support measures of implementation that will continue to reduce the effects of COVID-19 on students and families.

Title I is a federally funded program under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  Federal funds are provided through the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) to local educational agencies (LEAs) and designated towards improving the academic achievement of disadvantaged at-risk students, in order to ensure they meet and/or exceed challenging state academic standards.  Title I funds are used to provide enhanced learning opportunities to these students and improve communication among all stakeholders.
