Hour of Code Week
December 8-14, 2025 (During Computer Science Education Week)
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.
Piedmont Regional Student Technology Competition
Piedmont Region - Open to 3rd-12th grade students in Cherokee County Schools, Gilmer County Schools, Fannin County Schools, Murray County Schools, and Pickens County Schools.
The categories will be reviewed by the Steering Committee in August and will be released in September. Updated information will be located at https://www.gastc.org/ under Students > Categories. The Programming Challenge event is not available in the Piedmont Regional Technology Competition. Information and virtual submission guidelines are located here.
Friday, January 23, 2026, at noon - Project Deadline
No late submissions will be accepted.
Once all submissions are made, judging will take place and winners will be announced on or before Friday, February 6, 2026. An email will be sent to the coaches notifying them of all winners at the Regional Competition. There will not be an in-person awards ceremony. All first-place winners are eligible to attend the Georgia State Technology Competition. Contact Dr. Shannon Carroll for details.
Georgia State Student Technology Competition

"The Georgia Educational Technology Student Competition (GaSTC) is an annual student technology competition produced by the Georgia Educational Technology Consortium. The Consortium sponsors other technology initiatives in Georgia, including the Georgia Educational Technology Conference (GaETC). The GaSTC is the highest level of student technology competition in Georgia with over 750 projects, representing the work of 1000+ students, who are judged at the competition each Spring."
All students that earned 1st place at the Piedmont Regional Technology Competition are eligible to participate at the State Competition. Regional winners will receive all the necessary information to prepare their projects for the State Competition.
