CCSD Message: Digital Learning Days - March 11-12, 2021 CCSD_Identity_stacked_CMYK

On behalf of the Superintendent, all CCSD schools will be closed for in-person learning on Thursday, March 11, and Friday, March 12, 2021 in order to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to CCSD employees.  We understand this closing may create hardships, but it is the best way for our organization, in partnership with the Department of Public Health (DPH), to quickly vaccinate all interested CCSD employees as soon possible.

E.T. Booth MS ES Earns Digital Citizenship Certification Common Sense Digital Citizenship logo

E.T. Booth Middle School has earned national certification for digital citizenship!

The school has been named a Common Sense Certified School for Digital Citizenship by Common Sense Education, a national nonprofit that assists educators in teaching students to develop successful digital skills and habits and to understand and safely use technology.

E.T. Booth MS Educator Wins CCSD Media Specialist of the Year Award CCSD MSOTY 1 2 26 21

E.T. Booth Middle School media specialist Amanda Graves doesn’t wait for students to visit her library.

She dons a biker vest and peddles a custom tricycle down the school’s halls to deliver books to them as the “Book Biker.”  She stocks a vending machine inside the school with books, instead of snacks, to feed their hunger for knowledge.  She fills a Little Free Lending Library on the school’s campus with books they can borrow at any hour.  She surprises them by appearing in costume – an inflatable T. Rex among the most memorable – to remind them of books’ power to spark imagination and joy.

CCSD Educators Honored by the Georgia Youth Science & Technology Centers CCSD STEM Scholars Awards 2 23 21

The Cherokee County School District recently hosted a ceremony honoring three teachers with awards from the Georgia Youth Science & Technology Centers.

The statewide STEM education organization earlier this school year named E.T. Booth MS teacher Daniele Deneka and Teasley MS teacher Scott Reece as 2021 STEM Scholars and last year named Clark Creek ES STEM Academy teacher Karen Garland a 2020 STEM Scholar.  The awards recognize teaching excellence and outstanding commitment to instilling appreciation for science and math in elementary and middle school students.  As its traditional award events were cancelled, the organization scheduled a special presentation event to be held at CCSD’s administrative offices.

CCSD Board Business Briefs: New School Leader Appointments CCSD new leaders 2 12 21

The Cherokee County School Board on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, approved several appointments for CCSD school leadership roles for next school year.

As part of the monthly personnel report, the School Board accepted the retirements of many longtime educators throughout CCSD including Bascomb Elementary School Principal Kathleen Chandler.  

CCSD Surprises District's Teacher of the Year Finalists toty finalists

Four Cherokee County School District teachers learned today that they will advance as finalists for the CCSD Teacher of the Year award!  Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower visited their classrooms to make the surprise announcement that they are the top four teachers of all CCSD schools’ and centers’ Teachers of the Year.
