CCSD 2021 WM Pine Bluff Scholarship winner 6 3 21

Etowah High School Class of 2021 graduating senior Margaret Bradley has earned this year’s Waste Management/Pine Bluff Landfill Scholarship!

The $5,000 scholarship is presented to a graduating senior each year as part of the company’s partnership agreement with CCSD.  The designated school rotates annually, with Etowah selected for the Class of 2021 school, and all graduating seniors from the designated school have the opportunity to apply.  This is the 14th anniversary of the scholarship.

A committee of community, Waste Management and CCSD representatives reviews and scores applications to select a winner who has excelled in academic, extra-curricular activities and community service.

Maggie, who ranked third in her class, plans to study biology or neuroscience at Georgia Tech and pursue a medical career.  She served as Student Government Association president for four years at Etowah HS and led charitable fundraising efforts for causes including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Etowah Cares, a school initiative to raise awareness and funds for mental health and wellness.  Captain of the varsity soccer team and varsity flag football team, Maggie also served as president of the school’s HOSA – Future Health Professionals chapter and vice president of the National English Honors Society and volunteered as a tutor for classmates.

“Wanting to go into the medical field, being a member and a leader in HOSA has helped me realize that this is the field I know I belong in as well as given me the opportunity to work with people who share my passion for wanting to heal the world,” she wrote in her application, adding that participation in team sports also has been a great influence in her life.  “Realizing you are a part of something bigger than yourself working towards a larger goal helps one realize the drive it takes to succeed.”
