Congratulations to the Cherokee County School District’s 2021 STAR Students and Teachers!

The STAR, or Student Teacher Achievement Recognition, Student honor is awarded to the high school senior from each Georgia high school with the highest score on any single test date of the SAT taken by the contest deadline, who also in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.  Each honored student is invited to select their favorite teacher to be named that school’s STAR Teacher.

The CCSD honorees are: Cherokee HS: Samuel Wyatt, student and Eric Jones, teacher; Creekview HS, Koryn Todd, student and Brenda Guyer, teacher; Etowah HS, a tie between Analise Black, student and Kristy Szpindor, teacher and Ian McKinney, student and John Murnan, teacher; River Ridge HS, Nicholas Audinet, student and Casey Belli, teacher; Sequoyah HS, Jeremy Jeong, student and Andrew Oberlies, teacher; Woodstock HS, Arnav Sharma, student and Steve Epperson, teacher.

“Our STAR Students shine brightly among all graduating seniors in the nation, and we’re incredibly proud of their accomplishments,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “Congratulations to these extraordinary students and their families and to their dedicated teachers, who these awards also honor, for their work to teach, coach and guide their STAR Students toward future success.”  

This year, the program sponsored by PAGE (Professional Association of Georgia Educators) and additionally at the local level by the Lions Clubs, is following a different model, and a virtual event will be held later this spring to announce the State winner.  The Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools will honor the CCSD winners with a virtual recognition during the May School Board meeting.
