Textbooks issued to students are the property of Johnston Elementary School. They should be used with care and returned in good condition. Students are responsible for books which are lost, stolen, or damaged beyond use. Currently adopted textbooks are barcoded and checked out to each student.
Technology is something that is embedded into the instructional day. Johnston Elementary has mobile laptop carts, and iPads for each grade level.
Some teachers utilize Bring Your Own Learning Device (BYLD) to engage students with technology for instructional purposes.
Only if the teacher sends communication home about a specific BYLD lesson should a student bring a device from home. Therefore, no electronics, cell phones, iPads, etc. are permitted on the school campus at Johnston unless the teacher has made a request for a specific day. Students will be given appropriate consequences if they bring a device with no BYLD lesson planned for that day. Johnston has a progressive discipline plan for students who violate the BYLD expectations. At no time should a student and parent text during the day. Texting a parent does not fall under an “instructional purpose” and the student will be given consequences for texting a parent or friend during the school day.
