School Board Salutes Police Department for 20 Years of Exemplary Service CCSD School Police Department 20th 3 25 19

The Cherokee County School Board is celebrating the CCSD School Police Department for its 20 years of exemplary service.  

Led since its establishment by Chief Mark Kissel, who has announced he will retire at the end of this school year, the Department consists of 20 police officers certified by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council, an Emergency Management Facilitator and office staff.

CCSD's Communications Division today released the District's 2018 Annual Report of District Progress, showcasing CCSD student achievement and School District accountability across multiple metrics.  The report can be viewed here.

Dinosaur Sighting at OGES


What will teachers do to #GetCherokeeReading? Well, dressing up in 7ft blow-up dinosaur costumes and dancing in the after school car line is not too much to ask. The dinosaurs had as much fun as the students as they promoted the upcoming Book Fair.

Thank you Hillside UMC volunteers, Christy Cook, Deborah Rogers, Teresa Carnes, Natalie Wald, & Amy Zaski for coming out on Saturday to make the OGES' campus more beautiful. They spread the playgrounds and some of the beds with the largest pile of mulch we have ever seen.

CCSD Kicks Off Second Annual "Get Cherokee Reading" Event! CCSD Get CCSD Reading 2019

The Cherokee County School District is celebrating the importance of literacy with its second annual month-long “Get CCSD Reading” campaign! 

In support of the statewide Get Georgia Reading initiative, the program kicks off with Read Across America Day on Friday, a nationwide reading event that coincides with renowned children’s book author and illustrator Dr. Seuss’s March 2 birthday.

CCSD Seeks to Score with Math Campaign and Competition CCSD Math Madness 2 27 19

The Cherokee County School District seeks to score with a new math campaign and competition connected to the excitement of college basketball’s “March Madness.”

The month-long CCSD Math Madness celebration begins this week in schools across CCSD, with activities planned by the Office of Curriculum & Instruction that encourage problem-solving, real-world math application… and fun!  Students in kindergarten through fifth grade also will have the chance to win prizes through an i-Ready Math March Madness competition using CCSD’s online math system.

CCSD Kicks Off Strategic Plan Initiative with Community Engagement Strategic Planning Community Meeting 2.25

The Cherokee County School District has kicked off a significant update to its five-year Strategic Plan and began the process with community engagement.

The School District, with the support of the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA), is developing a new plan aligned with the community’s vision for the future and designed to be better understood and appreciated by the community and more accurately implemented and measured by CCSD staff.

Etowah High School Athletes come to Oak Grove Elementary before school, every other week to share their love of reading with students. The OGES students love being read to and look forward to the Eagle athlete visits. As it is Black History Month, we chose books that celebrate African Americans.

Sprouting STEMs - Thank You Etowah Students & Ms. Chester


Our first Sprouting STEMs lesson- Etowah students taught a lesson on Earthquakes and students worked to create the strongest structure possible using toothpicks and marshmallows that will withstand an “earthquake”.

News from Art Club

Art Club

Art Club started Wednesday, January 16th. Students from grades 3, 4, and 5 had a great time and got right into painting. “It’s over already”, one student stated when it was time to clean up. Discussing art by the artist Chihuly, students began painting water bottles that will later be turned into a 3 dimensional sculpture similar to Chihuly’s. If your child is interested in joining the Art Club, have them pick up a registration form from the Art room.

This student lead before school and during recess activity, the OGES News, allows students to be actively involved in all aspects of our Friday news broadcast. Students gather information from teachers, students, and administrators, write the script, add green screen images, speak on camera, film the broadcast, and then prepare the video for sharing with the entire school.

ShelbyHi! My name is Shelby Gibbs. I graduated from Reinhardt University in May of 2017. This is my first teaching position, and I am so thankful and excited to work at Oak Grove. I have been married for 2 years, and we are currently awaiting the arrival of our first baby boy coming this month. I love this school and my students, and I cannot wait to see what the future
