THE CHEROKEE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION
CHATTAHOOCHEE TECHNICAL COLLEGE
This agreement entered into on this 17th day of June, 2021 by and between the Cherokee County Board of Education, hereinafter referred to as the “School Board” and Chattahoochee Technical College, hereinafter referred to as “Chattahoochee Tech.”
WHEREAS, the School District’s mission is to educate the emerging generation through learning environments designed to increase the performance of all students; and,
WHEREAS, one of the School District’s Priority Areas is Family, Partner and Community Engagement; and,
WHEREAS, Chattahoochee Technical College, a Unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, is a point of access
• for individual, business and industry, and communities
• to programs which are occupational or transferable
• to associate degrees, diplomas, certificates, non-credit courses, and adult education
• through traditional campuses and online means
• in an environment supportive of learning, teaching, retention, and graduation
WHEREAS, Chattahoochee Tech’s vision is to be embraced by its communities as they would traditionally embrace a two-year college, including a positive reputation, a range of offerings that match community expectations, a robust access to successful outcomes, and a Golden Rule culture.
Now therefore in consideration of the covenants and conditions set forth herein the parties agree as follows:
The parties agree that the foregoing recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference
The School Board will:
1. In conjunction with Chattahoochee Tech, establish a leadership forum (co-chaired by the Superintendent and President) and work group(s) to develop joint recommendations in appropriate areas, including a joint vision for collaborative education and to develop a joint legislative program in this regard.
2. Participate and provide system designees for the Education and Career Partnership.
3. Provide the use of school system facilities as approved by appropriate Cherokee County School District personnel, waiving rental fees as contained in the Community Use of System Facilities Policy (KG), including custodial and supervisory fees when applicable, to the extent permissible under Georgia Law.
4. Continue to provide and communicate Dual Enrollment opportunities for Cherokee County students and identify programs of study most suitable for Cherokee County School District students.
5. Promote post-secondary programs at Chattahoochee Tech and work with representatives to develop more rigorous curriculum standards to prepare students for post-secondary education.
6. Promote and recruit groups of students from middle and/or high school for tours of and participatory field trips to Chattahoochee Tech.
7. Provide use of school bus transportation to transport students to Chattahoochee Tech for an organized tour as part of a career, technical and agricultural education program, adhering to all field trip guidelines, rules and regulations.
8. Recruit middle and high school teachers, counselors and other appropriate staff to participate in current and emerging summer professional development hosted by Chattahoochee Tech as scheduled.
9. Utilize guest speakers from Chattahoochee Tech for elementary, middle and high school classes.
10. As part of the Cherokee County School District Career, Technical and Agricultural Education initiative, CCSD students will participate in any career-related assessment inventories, administered by Chattahoochee Tech at CCSD high schools and, with the implementation of Career Pathways, blend the Pathways program seamlessly with the Chattahoochee Tech curriculum.
11. Be responsible for any claims, judgments or demands occasioned by the acts of their employees, agents or actors.
12. Pursue joint grant opportunities that are in both parties’ best interests.
13. Include CCSD representation by appropriate staff member on Chattahoochee Tech’s President’s Advisory Council.
14. Cherokee County School District’s three-year Technical/Career initiative will continue to include opportunities for collaboration with Chattahoochee Tech. These will include but not be limited to inclusion on district-wide and school-based advisory committees, career pathways and program of study development, work-based learning experiences and Career Fair participation.
15. Participate in a Cherokee County School District/Chattahoochee Tech annual meeting forum designed for the express purpose of planning, developing and implementing programs beneficial to students attending both institutions.
16. Provide notice of opportunities for Chattahoochee Tech students to apply for positions in After School Programs.
Chattahoochee Tech will:
1. In conjunction with the School Board, establish a leadership forum (co-chaired by the Superintendent and President) and work group(s) to develop joint recommendations in appropriate areas, including a joint vision for collaborative education and to develop a joint legislative program in this regard.
2. Provide and communicate the offering of a wide range of services to high school/middle school students, teachers and counselors, including but not limited to the following: hosting a day annually for Cherokee County School District designated staff to become more familiar with its programs, instructors visiting high school classrooms; financial aid and admission counseling; Placement Testing on high school campuses, large and small group tours of campus; Chattahoochee Tech Open House for high school teachers, staff and students; presentations to special high school groups; guest speakers to classes, clubs or groups; and staff to serve on advisory committees.
3. Continue to honor and participate with the Education and Career Partnership Statewide Secondary – Post Secondary Articulation Agreement..
4. Provide Dual Enrollment opportunities for Cherokee County students.
5. Offer courses and training to students and community as requested and approved by appropriate Cherokee County School District personnel, such as the Early Childhood Care and industry certification programs.
6. Be responsible for any claims, judgments or demands occasioned by the acts of their employees, agents or actors.
7. Abide by the rules and regulations contained in the facility use contract at each facility and those contained in the Community Use of System Facilities Policy (KG), including custodial and supervisory fees when applicable, to the extent permissible under Georgia Law.
8. Conduct an interview with the appropriate supervisor of each facility prior to and after the use of the facility.
9. Work with appropriate staff from the school district to develop programs of study which begin in the high school with aligned curriculum, and culminate with post-secondary study at Chattahoochee Tech.
10. Work with Career Pathway Facilitators and area businesses to coordinate work-based learning programs leading to post-secondary education at Chattahoochee Tech.
11. Work with appropriate school system administrators, high school teachers and other appropriate staff to determine feasibility of sharing resources such as labs, materials, instructors, etc.
12. Pursue the opportunity to involve representatives from the Cherokee County School District in the planning and development of a future campus in Cherokee County, as it relates to possible future magnet programs, dual enrollment opportunities, etc.
13. Provide staff to administer any appropriate assessments to students at CCSD high schools.
14. Pursue joint grant opportunities that are in both parties’ best interests.
15. Not discriminate against any partnership participant because of race, national origin, age or disability.
16. Make staff available for mentor/facilitators and/or judges for Senior Projects.
17. Inform students of CCSD requirement that, prior to commencement of an applied learning experience, they must complete a criminal background check, and provide clean results indicating no crimes of moral turpitude. Students shall be responsible for completing, and paying for, such background checks as may be required by CCSD. CCSD reserves the right to reject any participant who does not meet its minimum background requirements.
18. Offer contracted courses and training to employees as requested and approved by appropriate Cherokee County School District personnel to ensure that existing employees can upgrade their skills, maintain or add industry certification requirements, develop leadership and management skills, or improve safety systems.
The term of this contract is June 17, 2021 through June 17, 2022. This contract shall automatically renew for additional terms not to exceed five years unless either party notifies the other at least 60 days prior to renewal date.
