PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT
BETWEEN
THE CHEROKEE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION
AND
THE MARINE CORPS LEAGUE
MAJOR GENERAL WARREN R. JOHNSON DETACHMENT

This his agreement entered into on this 20th day of June 2019 by and between The Cherokee County Board of Education, hereinafter referred to as the “School Board” and the Marine Corps League, Major General Warren Johnson Detachment 1311, Woodstock, Georgia, hereinafter referred to as “The League.”
WHEREAS, the School Board’s mission is to educate the emerging generation through learning environments designed to increase the performance of all students; and,
WHEREAS, one of the School Board’s Major System Priorities is to increase parental and community involvement through public engagement policies and practices that treat parents, businesses, community-based organizations and agencies, local institutions of higher learning and other public entities as true partners in the educational process, and
WHEREAS, The League takes great pride in crediting its founding in 1923 to World War I hero, then Major General Commandant John A. Lejeune. It takes equal pride in its Federal Charter, approved by An Act of the Seventy-Fifth Congress of the United States of America and signed and approved by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 4, 1937. The League is the only Federally Chartered Marine Corps related veterans organization in the country.
Now therefore in consideration of the covenants and conditions set forth herein the parties agree as follows:
ARTICLE I
The parties agree that the foregoing recitals are true and correct and incorporated herein by reference:
ARTICLE II
The School Board will:
1. Nominate outstanding graduating JROTC cadets from CCSD high schools to be considered for the League’s annual Scholarship Program. Nominations are to be made in writing by CCSD high school JROTC instructors and provided to The League Scholarship Committee by April 30. The Committee will review nominations and determine winners of the cash awards. The awards will be presented at winners’ school JROTC Honors Award Nights.
2. Provide the use of track and field facilities, waiving the rental portion of fees as part of Community Use of System Facilities Policy (KG), for the League’s annual fundraising run.
3. Promote the League’s programs through existing communications channels, including nominating students for various League awards, scholarships and contests; and the Annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots programs, as permitted by School Board policy.
4. Explore/pursue joint grant opportunities in both parties’ best interest.
ARTICLE III
The League will:
1. Provide annual Scholarship Program cash awards to outstanding graduating JROTC cadets from CCSD high schools. The League Scholarship Committee will determine winners of the cash awards based on written nominations from CCSD high school JROTC instructors. The awards will be presented at winners’ school JROTC Honors Award Nights.
2. Provide assistance with and participation in school Veterans Day programs, as requested.
3. Provide schools with a list of veterans available to serve as classroom speakers; activities to foster patriotic activities; and information relative to Flag Education and other League activities and programs.
4. Participate in various school functions (character education programs, career days, vocational week, Read Across America) when League members are available.
5. Provide opportunities for Senior Projects for high school students including service as project mentors when League members are available.
6. Provide opportunities for community service for high school students wishing to meet expectations for college applications, scholarships, and social clubs.
7. Abide by the rules and regulations contained in the facility use contract at each school facility and those contained in the Community Use of System Facilities Policy (KG), including custodial and supervisory fees when applicable.
8. Explore/pursue joint grant opportunities in both parties’ best interest.
9. Accept all children/interested participants for participation within its programs without regard to their gender, race, political affiliation, age, national origin or handicapping condition or any other discrimination recognized and prohibited by State or Federal Law. Children/participants with handicaps must be provided all necessary levels of supervision and must be included within the activities of the partnering organization. As a result of this Agreement, the League must adhere to all local, State or Federal laws regarding education.
ARTICLE IV
The term of this contract is June 20, 2018 through June 20, 2019. This contract shall automatically renew for additional terms not to exceed five years unless either party notifies the other at least 60 days prior to renewal date.
This contract may be terminated by either party upon thirty days written notice to the other party with or without cause. All notice of this contract shall be given to the Superintendent of Cherokee County Schools at P.O. Box 769, Canton, Georgia 30169 and to The League Commandant, Craig “Doc” McNabb, 3980 Creekmore St., Canton, Georgia 30115.
