CCSD Celebrates Awareness Day for Special Olympics with Games and Activities

Hundreds of athletes, peer helpers, staff and volunteers celebrated the 2025 Awareness Day for Special Olympics today at Creekview High School stadium. The event kicked off with the Parade of Athletes, followed by the Torch Relay, National Anthem and Olympic Oath. School PTAs hosted the Olympic Village full of fun games and activities for the athletes, and special volunteers for the field events included members of Reinhardt University's athletic teams.

Student athletes rotated among the various sport and activity stations, ranging from hurdles, golf and softball to soccer, parachutes and bowling, earning hugs, high-fives and stickers for their accomplishments. The day ended with lunch in the stadium for the teams.

The Olympic Oath was recited by Ethan Simmons of Woodstock High School, and he was assisted by School Board Chair Janet Read Welch, Vice Chair Patsy Jordan, School Board member Chance Beam and Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis.  Thank you to our School Board for supporting such a great event that lifts and inspires all those who participate!  Thank you to Woodstock City Church for sponsoring the student and staff shirts for this year's event; and a special thanks to the Awareness Day coordinators -- Paula Dixon, Ben Farist, Rhonda Fiddler, Sherri Knox and Marissa Moore for going above and beyond to ensure the day was a fun and memorable experience for athletes, peer helpers, volunteers and staff!   #CCSDElevateTheExcellence
