CCSD Class of 2026 Senior Wins $5,000 Local Scholarship

A Cherokee County School District Class of 2026 senior has earned a $5,000 scholarship from a school district partner!

Sequoyah High School senior Kimberly Strickland has earned this year’s Waste Management/Pine Bluff Landfill Scholarship.

The scholarship is presented to a graduating senior each year as part of the company’s partnership with CCSD.  The designated school rotates annually, with Sequoyah HS selected for the Class of 2026, and all graduating seniors from the designated school may apply.  Congratulations to Kimberly and thank you to Waste Management and Pine Bluff!  Our School Board is laser focused on ensuring our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else.

Kimberly plans to study animal science at the University of Georgia.  A six-year competitive equestrian, Kimberly has earned championships in elite show jumping contests and works part-time at a local stable caring for 20 horses.  She is an accomplished musician, participating in band for seven years including roles as marching band drum major, first chair flutist in wind ensemble, principal in symphony orchestra, and winter guard captain.  She has been selected for All-State Band, Reinhardt University Honor Band, and District 9 Honor Band.  Editor of the school magazine, Kimberly has earned the Superintendent’s Key Scholar, Georgia Certificate of Merit, and AP Scholar with Merit.  In addition to serving through Beta Club and National Honor Society, she volunteers for Holiday Lights of Hope.

This is the 19th anniversary of the scholarship.  A committee of community, Waste Management and CCSD representatives reviews and scores applications to select a winner who has excelled in academic, extra-curricular activities and community service.
