CCSD Parent Named to State Parent Advisory Council

CCSD Parent Named to State Parent Advisory Council

A Cherokee County School District parent has been named to the state school superintendent’s advisory council!

Longtime PTA leader Audrey Legrand was selected by State School Superintendent Richard Woods to serve a two-year term on his Parent Advisory Council.  Congratulations to Ms. Legrand and thank you for your service and thank you to our School Board for its strong support of PTA and parent engagement!

“I am dedicated to encouraging families to play a vital role in supporting their children's education,” said Ms. Legrand, who has served for 15 years with the PTA in school and countywide leadership roles.  “I am passionate about working collaboratively to ensure that every student has the resources, support, and encouragement they need to thrive.”

The panel is made up of 30 Title I school parents from across the state selected by Superintendent Woods based on nominations.  Title I schools have higher enrollments of students who receive free or reduced price meals. They will meet three times this year, beginning later this month, with Superintendent Woods to discuss education issues in Georgia.  Advisory council members, in turn, share the information they learn with other families, serving as advisors and ambassadors in their communities.

Parents are nominated by their principals to be considered for the opportunity; only one nomination per school district is accepted.  Members are chosen based on leadership capacity and current school engagement, as well as their responses to education related questions as part of the selection process.

Ms. Legrand has volunteered and served in leadership roles both with her children’s school PTA units and with the Cherokee County Council PTA, which oversees all school PTA units countywide.  She is past president of the countywide PTA and the current treasurer.  Ms. Legrand, a Realtor and owner of Legrand Realty Group of ERA Sunrise Realty, also is a Class of 2019 graduate of CCSD’s VILLA parent volunteer academy.  She was nominated to the statewide Parent Advisory Council by Teasley MS Principal Kathie Monti, as one of Ms. Legrand’s children is a sixth-grader there.

“Audrey is an active and dedicated leader within both the school and district PTSA, consistently demonstrating her commitment to fostering collaboration between families and schools,” Principal Monti said.  “She strongly believes that parent engagement is a vital component of student success and works tirelessly to encourage involvement across the community.”

She will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at an upcoming board meeting.
