A Cherokee County School District elementary school for the second consecutive year has earned national recognition for physical education programs!

Free Home Elementary School is one of only 1,120 schools nationwide to be named to the America’s Healthiest Schools list.  Published by Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national children’s health organization, the list celebrates schools that support the health of students, staff and families.  Congratulations to PE teacher Coach Keith Furstenberg and Principal Julie Peppers and thank you to our School Board for its longtime investment in our PE programs!

Schools can be recognized in one or more of nine health-related categories, and Free Home ES was honored for four!  They are: Physical Education, Health, Staff Well-Being, and School Wellness Policy.  Schools must, for each content area, include detailed descriptions, lessons and specific documentation to achieve recognition for a standard.

“We are committed to movement and teaching the importance of a healthy lifestyle.  We are fortunate to have such a high level of collaboration and support from the Free Home administration, staff and community,” Coach Furstenberg said, noting the school’s goal is to achieve additional standards each year.

Coach Furstenberg and Principal Peppers will be recognized by the School Board and Superintendent of Schools at an upcoming School Board meeting.
