CCSD Student Earns 2024 Georgia Award of Excellence

A Cherokee County School District student has won the Georgia Award of Excellence!

Cherokee High School senior Reid Glover earned the award presented by the Georgia Department of Education to recognize graduating seniors who overcome special needs to achieve academic and/or extracurricular accomplishments.

His teachers praise his dedication to learning, especially his talents for writing and visual art.  Reid has excelled in art classes of increasing challenge, culminating in his participation this year in Advanced Placement (AP) 2D Art.  He is a member of the National Art Honor Society, Art Club and Ambassador Club.

Reid will attend Kennesaw State University in the fall to study digital animation and plans to pursue a career in animation.

“One way Reid’s artistry manifests in his academic pursuits is his desire to see what is unseen, to understand what is unknown and to place emphasis on what may have been overlooked at first glance,” teacher Erin Forman said.  “Reid’s asking came from a place of knowledge-seeking. He wanted the background story, the how and why, he wanted to deepen his understanding of the world and the people inhabiting it.”

The Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis will recognize Reid at an upcoming meeting.
