CCSD Student Earns College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship

A Cherokee County School District Class of 2026 graduate has earned a college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship!

Andrew Lockwood, who graduated this spring from Cherokee High School, is the recipient of a National Merit University of Georgia Scholarship.  Only 15,000 of the nation’s top graduating seniors – fewer than 1 percent -- are named National Merit Finalists becoming eligible for the 2,500 National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. universities and colleges announced this week.  Congratulations to Andrew, who plans to study finance at UGA!  Our School Board is laser focused on ensuring our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else.

National Merit college-awarded scholarship winners are selected by awarding groups through review of academic records and college-entrance exam scores; leadership and service in their school and community; and personal essays and letters of recommendation.  The scholarships range from $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.
