CCSD Student Recognized for Astronomy Advocacy

A Cherokee County School District student has been recognized for his astronomy advocacy!
Cherokee High School sophomore Alex Watkins was recognized by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners with a proclamation to observe April 2-8, 2024 as International Dark Sky Week.
Alex, who plans to pursue a career as an astrophysicist or astronomer, asked District 3 Commissioner Benny Carter to issue the proclamation. As part of his interest in astronomy, Alex advocates for the importance of dark skies and limiting light pollution.
