Two Cherokee County School District students are among only 94 students nationwide awarded an Air Force JROTC Flight Academy scholarship to earn a private pilot’s license and college credits this summer!

Congratulations to Cherokee High School junior William Tyler and Etowah High School junior Kane Barnard for earning the competitive scholarship based on strong evidence of his commitment to the Air Force core values of integrity, service to others, and excellence.  Our School Board is laser focused on ensuring our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else.

High school JROTC cadets selected for the program will take classes at select college campuses this summer to earn a private pilot license and 12 college credits.

This year’s applicant pool was highly competitive, according to the Air Force, with an average grade point average of 3.79 and average JROTC fitness test score of 90.8 among the cadets selected.  William is a cadet in the Cherokee HS JROTC program led by Senior Master Sgt. (Ret.) Jeffrey Bise and Technical Sgt. (Ret.) Jody Van Ostrand at Cherokee HS; and Kane is a cadet in the Etowah HS JROTC program led by Lt. Col. (Ret.) Stephen Bergey and Technical Sgt. (Ret.) Ciarra Malto.
