CCSD Students Earn Honors at State Science & Engineering Fair

Cherokee County School District students earned honors at the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair including several top awards!

CCSD middle and high school students compete regionally for the opportunity to vie for top honors at the statewide fair, which was held at the University of Georgia.  Congratulations to the honorees and their teacher sponsors, thank you to local sponsors, Cobb EMC and Gas South, and thank you to our School Board for its laser focus on ensuring our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else!

Sequoyah High School junior Natalie Pereira earned the Best in Category Senior Division Grand Award for the Biomedical and Health Science category for her project, “Observing Drug Resistance in a Multiple Myeloma (t4:14) Cell Line.”  She also earned the Office of Naval Research Naval Science Award and was named to the Top 10% of Science Projects in the competition.  Natalie’s teacher sponsor is Amberly Buchanan.

E.T. Booth Middle School seventh-grader Hudson Gillentine earned First Honors in the Junior Division for his project, “Watts in Your Walk: Using Nano-Enhanced Triboelectric Wearables” in the Energy: Sustainable Materials & Design category.  He also earned the Georgia Aquarium Conservation Award and Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge Nomination and Invitation.  Hudson’s teacher sponsor is Adrianna Flieger.

E.T. Booth Middle School seventh-grader Pranav Vasishta earned Second Honors in the Junior Division for his project, “Harnessing Multi-Directional Wind Energy Using the O-Wind Turbine” in the Energy: Sustainable Materials & Design category.  His teacher sponsor is Ms. Flieger.

Cherokee High School junior Amanda Michno earned Fourth Honors in the Senior Division for her project, “Analysis of Nrf2 in Regulating Intestinal Homeostasis” in the Biomedical & Health Sciences category.  Her teacher sponsor is Robin Barnhorn.
