CCSD Student Earns Award for Dedication to the Environment
A Cherokee County School District student has earned a countywide award for his dedication to the environment.
Etowah High School senior Hayden Raffield this month was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award from Keep Cherokee Beautiful in a presentation made at the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners’ meeting.
Hayden’s volunteerism with the environmental organization expanded this year with his efforts to successfully advocate for the formation of a Keep Cherokee Beautiful Student Council.
The student council’s mission is to empower high school students by actively involving them in environmental preservation and community improvement projects, like Adopt a Mile and educational workshops. Participants also will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and foster a deeper sense of civic responsibility. Applications are due by Dec. 20 and are online at https://bit.ly/kcbstudent24.
Hayden also last school year co-founded the Eagle’s Service Connection club at Etowah High School and serves as its president. In its inaugural year, the club’s members participated in 700 hours of community service, and the membership has grown this school year to more than 160 members.
