CCSD Students Named to State School Superintendent's Student Advisory Council

Two Cherokee County School District students have been named to the State School Superintendent’s 2025-26 Student Advisory Council!

Sequoyah High School senior Sebastian Murillo and Etowah High School junior Allegra Panga are among the 79 high school students from across the state selected for the prestigious role.  State School Superintendent Richard Woods chose his student advisors based on their applications and answers to essay questions about improving public education.  Congratulations to our students and their teachers and thank you to our School Board for its laser focus on ensuring our students learn more, grow more, and achieve more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else!

The group will meet with Superintendent Woods throughout the school year beginning next month to talk about how state policies affect their schools.  The Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis will recognize the students at an upcoming School Board meeting.

Sebastian is an officer with Sequoyah’s chapter of the DECA student marketing, management and entrepreneurship association, earned first place at its state competition and advanced to its International Career Development Conference.  A Student Government Association grade-level representative and National Honor Society member, Sebastian volunteers as a Journey Club mentor for elementary school students.

Allegra, who runs on Etowah’s track team, is a member of National Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Science National Honor Society.  She volunteers through her school’s service clubs.
