CCSD Students, Reading Bowl Teams Earn State Literary Honors

Cherokee County School District students earned honors at an annual statewide literary competition, including eight first-place wins.
Tome Student Literacy Society is a national student organization dedicated to promoting reading through club activities, community service and competition. TomeCon, which this year was held in Athens, is its annual state conference with opportunities for students in grades 2 to 12 to attend learning sessions and participate in individual and team competitions.
Avery Elementary School and E.T. Booth Middle School both placed first in the Reading Bowl, with six students earning individual first-place awards: Victoria Marin-Garzón of River Ridge HS for Promotional Flyer, Jolynn Meyer of Teasley MS for Fan Art, Rishabh Pandya of Clark Creek ES STEM Academy for Fan Fiction, Gracie Panyard of Mill Creek MS for Book Review Blog, Skylee Poirrer of Etowah HS for Poem and Keirthen Titus of E.T. Booth MS for Digital Cover Redesign.
Avery ES reading bowl team members are: Weston Brzykcy, Darcy Chesson, Gabriella Colbaugh, Carson Decker, Miles Hamilton, Liam Helms, Lila Keyes, Caleb Owens, Lawson Peters and Scarlett Smith; coaches are media specialist Jennifer Blakey and teachers Kristen Smith and Alicia Thrower.
E.T. Booth MS reading bowl team members are: Demi Adekunle, Ella Bain, Jahnavi Bellamkonda, Rijo Beniston, Hakshara Bisetty, Ava Bourgault, Lilah Bourgault, Lyla Brigman, Claire Casselman, Ahana Das, Arnav Ghode, Evelyn Jackson, Thomas Joyce, Zofia Kuczma, Lillie McFarland, Kashish Nadukuru, Kyler Sealock, Ishva Shah, Brayden Smith, Keirthen Titus and Ashley Wang; coaches are media specialist Amanda Graves and teacher Jamie Stahler.
E.T. Booth Middle School’s Tome chapter also earned the Superior Chapter and Bronze Chapter of the Year Seal awards.
CCSD students additionally earned second- and third-place awards in individual events, with several students selected for service awards and induction into the organization’s honor society.
