CCSDGives: Sequoyah High School Shop With a Chief
These photos from last year’s Sequoyah High School Shop With a Chief event show children enjoying special holiday activities at the school, left, and the shopping spree for gifts, clothing and more.
Today’s #CCSDGives project is from Sequoyah High School! CCSD students learn the value of service year-round through charitable projects and volunteering. During the holiday season, our schools stay especially busy with these projects. To increase our students’ positive impact in the community, we will regularly share details of these projects with you through CCSDGives posts including how you can help.
WHAT: Sequoyah High School Shop With a Chief
WHY: The special event benefits children in need from the school’s community. “Dedicated student volunteers transform our cafeteria into a winter wonderland” for the special event, Principal Robert Van Alstyne said. “On a Saturday morning, the student volunteers arrive early, sharing breakfast with elementary students, accompanying them on a shopping spree and ensuring they keep track of their ‘littles’ along with their gifts. In the afternoons, they engage in crafting activities, enjoy pizza and even have the chance to visit Santa with their little before we safely return the littles to their parents.”
HOW CAN YOU HELP? Students raise money year-round for the program through collecting donations and organizing fundraisers. Financial donations fund the shopping trips for the children in need as well as the breakfast and lunch events at the school. Financial donations can be dropped at the school front office during school hours (8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.) through Dec. 15 for this year’s event, and then fundraising will begin for the 2024 event.
