Celebrating CCSD Bus Driver Appreciation Week: Special Education driver Sandra Biddy!

It’s National Bus Safety Week and CCSD Bus Driver Appreciation Week!  Our talented and dedicated team of school bus drivers carry the most precious cargo each day to help our students learn more, grow more, and achieve more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else.  This week, we’re celebrating our bus drivers by spotlighting one of our Transportation Employee of the Year Award winners each day.  Please join us in thanking Special Education Transportation Employee of the Year Sandra Biddy!

A 44-year CCSD school bus driver, Ms. Biddy drives Special Education routes for Holly Springs Preschool, Liberty ES, Freedom MS, ACTIVE Academies and Cherokee High School.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
First, I would like to thank my Lord and Jesus Christ My Savior for the job I have.  One of the most rewarding things about my job was that I got to stay home with my two boys when there was no school.  I drove general education students for years and I loved listening to their stories about what they did at school or home.  Sometimes they tell you things that I don’t think mom and dad want them to talk about!  It's always nice when I'm out and about to come across some of them, and they come up and thank me and say I was a good bus driver.  Now I drive special needs students and they really are special in their own ways.  They may want you to see their shoes light up when they walk or they are so proud of a picture they colored for mom and dad.  I get to be a little part of all my students' lives and watch them grow up and learn.

How do you elevate the excellence on your bus?
I have a great attendant on my bus: Tanya Cosgrove.  We make sure students know the bus rules, talking quietly, be nice to your fellow bus riders.  When they get off the bus either at school or home, we tell them be good listeners, do the best you can, and always do what you're told.  I tell my students your actions have consequences -- make good choices!
