“We’re all here for the right reasons: we have a great community, and we want to keep it that way.  It’s an honor to work alongside you to do what’s best for our community and, most importantly, what’s best for our kids,” is how School Board Chair Janet Read Welch today closed a special visit to Carmel Elementary School by School Board members and Cherokee County Legislative Delegation members.

The elected officials together popped into classrooms to see children learning to read using new textbooks, workbooks, and digital resources adopted by the School Board.  The Delegation, during the visit, heard from Board members, Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis, district staff, and Principal Lisa Rich as to how the statewide literacy bill the Delegation helped craft this past year under the Gold Dome connects to School Board Policy adopted in the boardroom, to the effective instruction by teachers in our classrooms, and to, most importantly, students learning.

Delegation members had the opportunity to page through literacy resources and ask students, teachers, and staff questions about reading, writing, and communication instruction in the district.  State Reps. Charlice Byrd, Jordan Ridley, and Brad Thomas attended today’s special visit with Chair Read Welch and Board members Chance Beam and Erin Ragsdale.
