Emily Green at WMS

Emily Green of Woodstock Middle School

A 23-year educator, Ms. Green teaches sixth-grade science at Woodstock MS, where she's taught for the past 10 years. Before joining CCSD, she taught at middle schools in Athens and Alpharetta.

What inspired you to become a teacher?
I started college as a pre-med major because I wanted to be a physician assistant … Organic Chemistry 2 derailed that plan! But I love science so much I decided to become a teacher and pass that love onto the younger generation instead. I have several family members who are amazing teachers who helped guide me into that path.

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
I love the “aha!” moments I see on students' faces when they grasp a concept, as well as the excitement and “cool!” comments when they see or experience something new. It's also never boring being a teacher … there’s something new and different every day, every year!

How do you elevate the excellence in your classroom?
I elevate the excellence by providing multiple modalities for students to show their knowledge. I try to offer a variety of options when it comes to products, whether it's creatively using technology, hands-on activities, or visuals. Not all students thrive with notes, tests and essays. My hope is that providing opportunities in a variety of learning styles will appeal to everyone in one way or another, enabling everyone to learn and thus elevating the excellence for all.
