Dani Silverman at Hickory Flat ES

Dani Silverman of Hickory Flat Elementary School

A 10-year educator, Ms. Silverman worked as a kindergarten paraprofessional for one year at Hickory Flat before taking on her current role as a kindergarten teacher. She started her career with Fulton County Schools as a special education and general education teacher and then worked in a private school.

What inspired you to become a teacher?
I was actually on the path to do something completely different! My mom worked at an elementary school as a technology specialist. I was home on a break from college and went to visit her. She was in a classroom and I sat in the teacher’s rocking chair to keep her company. When I looked around, I knew in that moment, that’s where I belonged!

What do you find most rewarding about your job?
The relationships I build with the community, my students, and their families. While watching them absorb what I teach them and grow academically is so exciting, the bond that we form in our 180 days together is unbreakable. I love seeing them grow up and staying in touch with their families!

How do you elevate the excellence in your classroom?
I elevate the excellence in the classroom by making my classroom a safe, exciting, fun place to be! By creating a nurturing environment, the kids come in ready to learn every day. I believe in them, so they believe in themselves and accomplish great things!
