Our middle school student-assigned laptop model launch is proceeding on time, with the first devices now in use!

New for this school year, each middle school student is being assigned a CCSD Chromebook to ensure access to learning tools, both print and digital, throughout the school day.  The laptop computers are a tool to enhance teacher-driven instruction with School Board-adopted district guidelines in place to limit screen time during classroom instruction and homework assignments.

The School Board’s investment in these devices was funded by our community-approved Education-SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax).  We’re on a mission to be the highest-performing school district in Georgia where our students are learning more, growing more, and achieving more in our classrooms than they could anywhere else!

Our technology logistics and warehouse and central warehouse teams collaborated closely together to ensure the on-time delivery of CCSD Chromebooks and security carts to our schools.  Every Chromebook and cart required unpacking, inspection, scanning and addition to our inventory prior to delivery. [See a quick video of the journey of the laptops to our classrooms]

This week, Freedom Middle School became the first school to begin classroom use.  Devices and carts were delivered this week to Dean Rusk MS and Teasley MS.  Next week, Creekland MS and E.T. Booth MS will receive devices, followed by deliveries at Mill Creek MS and Woodstock MS the week of Sept. 14.

In accordance with Georgia’s Distraction-Free Education Act, our middle school students no longer are permitted to use cell phones or other personal electronic devices during the school day.  The new student-assigned CCSD Chromebook model ensures all middle school students have access to technology for classroom learning.  The School Board-adpopted screentime guidance shapes the time on student learning devices to that, on average, equates to 35 minutes Pre-K through Grade 2, 45 minutes for Grades 3-5, and 90 minutes for Grades 6-12.

Students will not routinely take the devices home, but some check-outs will be permitted for schoolwork.  To provide more information to students, parents, and the community about the new student-assigned laptop model, we’ve created a webpage with an overview and FAQs online here.
