Volunteers, students and school officials cut the ribbon on a new playground structure at Sixes Elementary School on Wednesday.  The PTA and surrounding community raised funds the last two years to replace an aging playscape with a new structure, concrete pad and safety surfacing for students at the K-5 school.

Principal Dr. Ashley Kennerly thanked the PTA executive board from the last two years for the vision and hard work to bring the new playground to life, including Kim Holmberg, Kristal Holmes, Alice Barnett, Meredith Ward, Bobbi Koblaz, Wendy Krug, Trista Reese, Melissa Meyer, Amber Casagrande and Jamie Weedameyer.

"Someone once said, 'If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.' Collaboration and teamwork have been the underlying theme for this school year at Sixes Elementary," Dr. Kennerly said in thanking the PTA leadership, as well as teachers, students and the community.  Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower added his kudos to the Sixes community for its efforts to improve the school, as did School Board Chair Kyla Cromer.  Member of the CCSD Support Services team that oversaw construction of the project were also on hand for the ribbon cutting.

Top student fundraisers for the Sixty for Sixes program, which raised $36,000, were Aryssa Brooks, Cooper Escalante, Eli Ward, Decker Cromer, Courtney Leszynski and Heath Ward (top fundraiser in entire school).
