CCSD Parent University on Jan. 31 Focused on Cyber Bullying, Social Media Parent University Flyer Spring 23

The Cherokee County School District will present its next Parent University program on Tuesday, Jan. 31, with a focus on cyber bullying and social media.

CCSD's Parent University regularly presents free programs for parents on topics of interest to families with school-age children.  The Jan. 31 program is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Woodstock City Church (150 Ridgewalk Way, Woodstock 30188).  The target audience is parents/guardians and students age 11 and older.

Georgia’s Teacher of the Year visited the Cherokee County School District this week for a special presentation!

Michael Kobito, an Advanced Placement (AP) music theory teacher and high school band director at Woodland High School in Bartow County, is the 2023 Teacher of the Year for the state.

Cherokee County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower this week presented at the 2023 “State of the County” program.

The regional Council for Quality Growth nonprofit group organizes the annual luncheon.  Wednesday’s featured reports by Cherokee County Board of Commissioners Chairman Harry Johnston, Cherokee Office of Economic Development President Misti Martin and Dr. Hightower.

The Cherokee County School District is leveling up students’ computer skills with its first-ever Minecraft Programming Challenge!

The challenge, organized by CCSD’s Office of Technology and Information Services, builds upon the school district’s nationally recognized use of Minecraft: Education Edition, the school version of the popular video game, to further engage students in learning.

Board Business Briefs: New School Board Members Take Office CCSD SCHOOL BOARD 2023

The Cherokee County School Board on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, welcomed two new members to the board.

Newly elected District 5 member Erin Ragsdale of Towne Lake and District 6 member Dr. Susan Padgett-Harrison of Canton were sworn into office at the start of the board’s regular meeting.  Two members whose terms were up for renewal and were reelected also took their oath: District 3 member John Harmon of Hickory Flat and District 4 member Robert “Rick Steiner” Rechsteiner of southwest Cherokee.

Mill Creek Super Speller Captures County Bee Title spelling bee winners

Mill Creek Middle School eighth-grader Joli Palmquist correctly spelled “ascension” and then “importunate” to claim the title as the county’s top speller at the 2023 Cherokee County School District Spelling Bee Wednesday night at Cherokee High School.  Rohan Pandya of ET Booth MS captured second, and Charli Wallace of Creekland MS placed third.

Cherokee County School Board members regularly visit schools for tours with the Superintendent of Schools, members of his staff, and the school’s Principal and administrative team.  This month, the visit was to Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy, where the group met with Principal Ashley Polito and her leadership team, toured the school and enjoyed a School Nutrition lunch from the cafeteria.
